Maintenance
You can prolong the life span of your tires if you follow our advice:
Check The Tire Pressure
Maintaining optimum pressure ensures:
- an optimum contact surface
- adequate traction
- shorter braking distance
- steering stability
- low noise
- less deforming and less heat generation
- a high level of comfort.
A tire that rolls on lower pressure decreases traction by 30%.
Underinflation determines abnormal tire overheating and wear. The damage is irreversible and can lead to the destruction of the tire. The effects of underinflation are not immediate and can manifest only in time.
You can prevent all this by checking your tire pressure every two weeks (including your spare tire). Make sure the tires are cold then you do it.
Protect Your Tires From Physical Shock
Rolling through asphalt holes in high speed or sidewalk curb impacts can cause major destruction to the internal structure of the tire.
Check The Tire Tread Depth
A worn tread can double the braking distance, especially on wet roads. The minimum legal tread depth is 1.6mm. In case of accidents, insurance companies refuse to pay damages if the beneficiary uses tires that do not respect this minimum depth.
All tires have wear indicators inside the tread grooves. The moment these indicators reach the surface, the tires must be replaced. But for maximum security on wet or snow covered roads it is better to replace your tires before this limit is reached.
Avoid Overloading
Tires supporting a 20% overload lose 30% power and traction. Check the tire specifications for maximum loading capacity.
Speed And Driving Style
Serpent roads, sudden acceleration and frequent braking have a negative impact on tires (at 120kmph a tire wears out twice as fast as it would at 70kmph). The forces that work in these conditions push the tire structure and tread to the maximum.
In case of anomalies (vibrations, sudden changes in direction) during driving you must determine and eliminate the causes as soon as possible.
In case of pressure loss you must stop so you won't damage the tires or even the wheels if all pressure is lost. In this case the wheel would be irreversibly damaged. If any anomaly occurs you must consult a specialist.
Before any intervention or repair on a tubeless tire you must check the interior for signs of degradation.
